July 1 thru 6 - 24 Kasilof - Watson Lake

July 1st found us on the move a short 83 miles down the road arriving at Watson Lake.  We're still boon docking but at a more traditional type of campground with woods and a campfire pit!  One day we hiked 5.7 miles to a beautiful lake through the burned out area of the 2019 Swan Lake wildfire. Such devastation of approximately 170,000 acres started by lightning.  There is hope with new growth in a baby pine tree and even an iris growing along the trail. We spotted some birds, loons and ducks enjoying the sunshine along with us.

Our Fourth of July hike took us 4.7 miles to the Russian River Falls.  We were a few weeks early to see the bear catching the salmon swimming up the falls.  However, we did see a Golden Eagle (even though he was not posing for the camera very well) If you zoom in on the last photo, Rick did capture a salmon.

Mother Nature can also be a force. A lot of land damage with the fire, good to see life is fighting its way back. Have fun u 2!!! Your family will be joining you shortly. How exciting! Happy trails! ✌️💕
